6th Year Ag Science students visited Castlecor Potato Farms, Mallow today. Students saw first hand how potatoes were grown, harvested and stored. This was a fantastic experience and to make the day even better, all students received a complimentary bag of rooster potatoes.
Well done to first year student Ellie O’ Brien who has been picked for under 15s Munster schoolgirls’ Soccer team and is playing this weekend in the Inter-Pros Tournament in Dublin. Good luck to Ellie and the girls.
SMGS Awards night took place last Thursday 8th November in the Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig. It was a wonderful occasion for us as a school body to celebrate the many sucesses of our students. The Awards Night recognises both academic and extra-curricular achievements as well as recognising students’ good behaviour, manner and co-operation with the Class Awards.
On a wet Thursday morning, SMGS Junior girls took on Passage West in Blarney. From the first whistle, the Blarney girls had complete control of the game with the opening two points being scored by Megan O'Shea and Aoibhin Kiely.
Under 14 hurlers first day out was a challenge against Carrigaline CS in Blarney with a 2-10 to 3-2 win. Great to see so many young lads taking part in GAA activities in the school.
Tough Start To Boys Soccer SeasonThe Boys U19 soccer team had a tough match against Glanmire, going down 3-1 despite a spectacular goal from Craig Hourigan.

Today 1st Years went on a wellness walk which was organised by the Amber Flag Committee. The Amber Flag Committee is committed to promoting positive mental health in SMGS.
Senior Camogie girls beat Gaelcholaiste Mhuire today 7-5 to 1-6 to progress to the next round of the Cork Colleges. Well done girls.
Our First Year Girls Football team played Coláiste Gobnait last Friday. The weather was close just like the match. Tension filled the air. It was a rocky start to the match conceding 3 points in quick succession. Luckily the girls came back scoring multiple points. Kelsey Cooper made an excellent run and a great pass by Megan O Shea guaranteed a goal. Half time score was Blarney 1:8 to Coláiste GobhnaIt 4:5.
